A lot of things will happen of February 5th – a lot. But there are only two things that are really important to me about it.
- Semseter 2 starts – great, back to college…
- Pokémon Battle Frontier starts on Toonami
Finally! I’m talking about the second one, not the first – or do you not know me well enough to know that?
Alright, I admit it – I’m still into that, what most of you would call childish, show. Same goes for Yu-Gi-Oh. But hey, what can I say – I like to watch/play them.
You can’t really blame a person for being interested in something that wasn’t really designed for their age group. I like the shows because of the action/strategy etc. that goes on in them. I actually do learn stuff from them that I wouldn’t have learned watching them at an earlier age.
Well, you’re probably bored listening to this by now, so I’ll just finish by ranting on about IE7:
It sucks.
Bad.
So buggy.
And bad.
Firefox rules.
In fact, you have no excuse not to be using Firefox given that you can get an add-on for it which let’s you view pages in IE format (for certain sites that only allow IE) from within Firefox. Now go download and use Firefox if you’re not already!
Architecture is in all aspects of the world – from your body’s architecture, to your life’s architecture, to computer architecture.
All three of those aspects of architecture were involved in the last few days – some in good ways, some in bad, and some in quite painful ways.
Computer Architecture
Not the most dazzling of modules in my course – I mean who wants to program a computer in assembly language? The final exam in it was on Thursday – and it wasn’t too nice either. Needing to pass the exam to pass the module (I really only needed 15% from it, but apparently if you fail the exam, you fail the module), I was like “shit, this won’t be nice”. Thank god my knowledge in (well most of) number systems and logic gates (from my JUNIOR Cert) came in handy. I hope I got around 50% in it – unfortunately, I have to do it again next semester…..
Body Architecture
Your body’s architecture determines how it is laid out and how it functions. So when something fecks up in there, it’s not good. Recently, I’ve been getting weird pains in the section of my body between the bottom of my ribcage and my pelvis. It’s odd – it hurts whenever I:
- Run
- Cough or sneeze while standing
- Lift something heavy
Makes me think if my body is crushing itself….
Life Architecture
Everyone life has an architecture – as in, you do the same thing every day. Most of you, get up, go to work, work, come home, go to bed – 5 days out of 7, 40-50 weeks of the year. Same with me, currently my life’s architecture is: Get up at 11, go to work and not work (not working means I’m actually not working, just on the computers), come home at 9 in the evening, go to bed. Works quite effectively, except it kills your eyes.
Jeez, a lot of stuff worth mentioning has happened in the past couple of days. Including such stuff as: college exams, n00b raping on Yu-Gi-Oh Online, and the way that the H2L arcade is fucking up again….
But the thing that stick out the most is – the fact I have to wait until February 5th for Pokémon Battle Frontier – damn you Toonami, why do you have to torture us with 2 whole weeks of “Starts 5th Feb”! I WANT IT NOW!
Yes, while YOU might think Pokémon is a waste of time, and a “kids show”, I still like watching it – especially as for the first time since the show’s start – Ash’s voice actually changes. Of course, it’s about time given he’s like, what 15/16 by now? And Brock must be going on 19/20 or something like that – comparable age to me, showing how the show isn’t just for kids! So don’t you start moaning. *goes and finds that video on YouTube with all the different opening credits of Pokémon – but fails*
Anyway, onto the other business.
This week sees the last two of my three college exams take place. Yesterday was Accounting for Non-Business Students. Which was a walkthrough considering I got a really high mark for Accounting in my Leaving Cert
– tomorrow afternoon will have Computer Architecture (blugh!) – in which I’ll need just about 30% to pass the module overall.
I’ve also got back into playing Yu-Gi-Oh ONLINE again now the Beta test is over. After a lot of n00b raping, I went up against someone who actually had decent cards and narrowly lost. Of course, my record is still 26-1, so I think I’ll go back to my n00b raping.
And the H2L Arcade is being a piece of shit lately – tournaments not working, jackpots not paying out and others. So, I’ve had to turn off the points system, and may have to disable tournaments until it works right…..
Oh well, back to the n00b raping….
“Pot Noodle – Fuel of the Nation, isn’t it?”
That’s what the ads say at least. It also kinda gets hard to believe that those pots of scrummy goodness are only 5% fat (the new ads about that fact dig in!) – like that really matters. What really matters is that they are both yummy and deadly to stupid teddys.
Oh, and back at home, the side entrance to the estate is a lot different than it was before….
Last night, whilst watching the re-runs of the WSOP Circuit Events on Challenge – I was eating a Pot Noodle. I can get quite addicted to them, and even munch down 3 of them in one evening (not good for the bank balance at €1.39 each!). What surprises me though is that it’s Nice and Spicy flavoured boiling water, soya pieces, dried veg, noodles and so-called “Spicy” sweet mango chutney can be very deadly when a certain stupid teddy bear comes roaming around the pot.
You see, I told you Wrong Babe was stupid – there’s the proof. Upon seeing it he decided to get a closer look and end up falling in. Needless to say he got the washing machine treatment later on (they hate the washing machine, and the dryer, and being hung up on the washing line outside).
Anyway, back to the estate – it seems that during last night either one of two things happened:
- The security company came to their senses and took down the gates closing off the entrance
- Someone did what I’ve always wanted to do and break them down!
I think the second option is the more likely, as the (newly bent) gates were on the grass next to the little security “office” chalet – which itself had a broken window. Hopefully now the side entrance will now be always open instead of just from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday. Handy since taking that exit cuts the time it takes me to walk to the village in half.
Technology may be good, but it sure can be slow. For example, today, I was moving about 20GB of data from one folder on my external hard drive to the PortableApps Menu so the programs would show in it. Who knew it would take 20 minutes to move?
Anyway, at least doing that was much easier than trying to understand two Portugese guys who had a problem with their laptop!
I’ve been getting a little lazy in wanting to launch all the games and programs I have on my hard drive. Instead of going to “Explore” in the menu and then actually navigating to it, now I have them all 1 click away (well excluding the clicks needed to scroll up/down).
Oh, how I want the next version of the PortableApps Menu to be released so I can remove the links to all the relevant un-installers from the menu!
Anyway, back to the Portuguese guys.
They came in saying something about drivers. Obviously, once I heard the word, I knew exactly what they were on about – it was getting to that stage which was the hard part! Alright, so he managed to tell me (in very broken English):
“I had a problem with the computer, so I was advised to re-format the hard drive. Now I need the drivers for my hardware and I also need to get Windows XP Home as the re-format put XP Professional on”
Only thing is – it’s a little hard to help someone get drivers when: the computer was made in Portugal and the only Google results for it come back in Portuguese, I can’t understand anything on his desktop, cos it’s all in Portuguese (well what do you expect?), and also when I eventually get to the Device Manager (having to first open it on the work computer and following the icons on his laptop), the devices without drivers show up with question marks – so I can’t tell what type of devices they are.
Needless to say, his computer wasn’t fixed there and then.
I just hope in future, they can learn how to fix their own driver problems and not leave the CD with the drivers and Windows XP Home back in their native country…..
Well, there are three main things to mention today, as outlined in the title.
And yes, today around half two GMT, whilst waiting for the bus to bring me back to Dunboyne from the shopping center, I saw a bus go by with an advertisement for Creme Eggs stating “They’re back”. Holy fuck…
Forgetfulness relates to several events that happened:
- I forget to bring enough money to pay bus fare in cash on Tuesday, thus missing my Programming exam
- I forget to bring the 12-month that Zeak won in Xmas Gifts with me to work to send it to him
- I forget our cleaner was coming early today and she walked in on me this morning still asleep in nothing but undies
- Ummm, well now I forget the 4th thing I forgot…
Absenteeism is mainly related to the second event in the forgetful list – me missing the Programming exam. And also probably, me missing from the internet for 4 days due to me avoiding work after last weekend (you don’t want to know…)
As for the Creme Eggs, I’m going to scream every time I see an ad for it. Or maybe just post every time I see one…
I’ve always been confused as to what to do with the last bits of cash on my 3V vouchers after I’ve used the bulk of the credit to buy stuff I actually want (like domain names, Steam games etc.).
I’ve always tried to add it to my Paypal account, but it never worked as I either had the e-mail I tried to use registered on my account, or the credit card already registered. So what to do with the dregs always baffled me……
Lately, I’ve taken to donating the dregs to websites I use and like. A month or so ago, I donated the last €16 (well OK, that one had some cash on it, but I wanted to donate something there anyway) to halo2.junk.ws – not just for the donor sig, but also as I really liked the community, and figured it was about time.
Plus Penny had already donated to them, and I wasn’t gonna let him be the only Head Organiser who was a donor!
And just today, the last €4.11 went to an Xbox fan site that I USED to be a bit of a big cheese on – until they removed me from power cos the members couldn’t understand H2L. While on the other end it only came out as £2.64 GBP, it’s still something to help them with the fees of their new server.
Now, my current voucher still has over €36 on it (started at €70, minus two domain names, and the Counter-Strike 1 Anthology on Steam) – and now this time I wonder which website, or person, to donate it’s dregs to when the amount of credit on it runs low enough to warrant one. Any suggestions?
Yup, it’s a completely new domain (WHOIS it if you don’t believe me) – and yes, it is a whole new blog.
This time I don’t plan on having the blog interfere with other crap hosted on the server cos said crap will be on it’s own sub-domain – so no more linking to images finding out they don’t show up and WordPress treating it as a page!
