Games Week
The last week has been really hectic given it was Games Week in college. And given I’m part of Games Soc (you should know that from the only pic of me you’ll see on the internet!) - well you get the picture.
So time to recap on a week filled with gaming, gaming, and more gaming. Oh, and some PS3 bashing.
And, in non-games related news, Toonami has stopped showing Battle Frontier episodes newer than Episode 447 - Second Time’s the Charm! But then again at last that means once the new eps restart, it’ll be the Deoxys Crisis special
!
Anyway, back to Monday - to start off Games Week, we had a Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament. Was pretty good except I was unable to bring the Pokémon victory with Pikachu being knocked out in the first round (I was the only person odd enough to use one of the Pokémon characters). Of course, a Halo 2 tournament would have been better but it was changed for some reason…..
Tuesday saw a PS3 talk and demo - the talk was pretty much about how much crap they threw under the hood of the huge (larger than the brick known as the Xbox 1!) PS3, and also how it can be used to run Linux, yet with only 256MB of RAM, how crappy it performs.
Afterwards we got to see how the PS3 only matches the 360 graphically, and also how they ripped off the Wiimote with you tilting the controller to melee in CoD 3. Given we also had a Wii and a 360 in the room as well for Console gaming, a lot of people steered clear of the PS3. Except those who wanted to play Motormania - an off-road racing game that is a mixture of Burnout and Excite Truck (Wii). See, more ripping off of Microsoft and Nintendo.
Wednesday was alright - I managed to get away with running CS:S on the lab machines in the CA building - of course it had to be offline against bots, given how the proxy is unbreachable. But it did give some of the Games Soc committee reason to consider making CS:S available for Lab Gaming. There was also a trip to the Xbox Live Gaming Centre planned - but since it was my cousin’s 14th birthday that day, I passed and instead went to meet her (and about 9 of her crazy friends) in the Blanch Centre to give her pressies and buy lunch. All in all, my 360 fund (€120 I had saved up from the previous two weeks) was wiped out.
Thursday saw a really packed Lab Gaming session - but unfortunately, the CS (only 1.6, I’m afraid) was overshadowed by the Dawn of War campaign….
I was gone within 2 hours - mainly cos of the bus times, but also ever so slightly because of the lack of CS.
And well, there wasn’t anything today - had there been, I wouldn’t be writing this blog post!
- I’ll be sure to not have a week’s gap between posts in future, but it’s been very hectic recently!
