In loco parentis
Recently it has come to mind how I can kinda feel like and act like a parent, even though I’m not.
Well, take my little sister for example. Since her dad doesn’t live in the house with us, I guess I’ve started to take on “fatherly” traits since most mornings and weekends, it’s just me and her in ront of the TV.
Recently, I’ve begun to notice a lot more occasions when I’m, in a way, “parenting” her - as Elaine puts it. Simple things like asking her to check that the dishwasher doesn’t have clean stuff inside before putting more stuff in, or making sure she cleans up here cereal after she eats it (she never does and it’s always gross when left out for hours), or even lecturing her on not eating 3 bowls of cereal in the morning.
Maybe I have begun to see her as less of a little sister, and more of a daughter - I don’t know if it’s the lack of her father, or the age gap, or just the fact I’m getting older and she seems younger….
It’s kind of the same with my cousing, Avy - although that might be more uncle-y than parent-y or cousin-y. Of course, I really should go back to teaching her how to Hoover effectively. Which is ironic, given I keep being told I don’t Hoover properly myself…..
Not that finding wrong babe matters - i mean he is stupid and wrong….
