Now this is sheer gaming
I’ve been thinking about getting a new gaming computer ever since… well, for ages. And recently, I’ve been over on Dell’s website looking up current configurations and prices for their mobile XPS’s.
Ignoring the M1310 and the M1530, it’s straight to the M1730 for a price and system check
This configuration seems like a good computer, all for the bargain price of €3,457.61 (!)
Alright, seems my blog is being gay and removing the table… Let’s try again:
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7700 (2.40 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 4 MB L2-cache)
Genuine Windows Vista® Ultimate (32Bit) - English
4096MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x2048]
Dual 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 8700M GT graphics with NVIDIA SLI Technology
400GB (7200rpm) SATA RAID 0 Stripe (2×200GB)
Fixed 8x DVD+/-RW Slim Slot Load drive, including SW
Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED HD Audio
Intel® Pro Wireless 3945 802.11a/b/g Mini-Card - Europe
Microsoft® Office 2007 Home and Student - English
Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth 2.0 Module (up to 3 Mbps) with Enhanced Data Rate EUR
Eng, Frn, Ger, Spn Placemat XPS M1730
XPS M1730 Backpack Carrying Case
Sapphire Blue with White LED Backlights
Dellâ„¢ Travel Remote Control
Kensington Twin Microsaver Lock
Logitech® MX® Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse - UK
Ageia PhysX Processing Unit Card
17.0″ UltraSharpâ„¢ WUXGA (1920×1200) TFT with TrueLifeâ„¢ with Integrated 2.0MP web cam
I’d upgrade the processor to a Core 2 Duo Extreme 2.8Ghz, but it’s an extra €800. Even over 3 years, that’s a little much for an extra 2 lots of 400Mhz…
Now according to Dell, that’s only €110.68 a month (presumably for the next 3 years). Doesn’t seem to bad, and seems kinda do-able. Just wish I had €110 a month for the next 3 years to pay for it…
Donations anyone? ![]()

I honestly think you’re mad.
If you want a gaming machine, you should get a beast of a desktop, it’d cost you less and give you more power.
Rev, I’d love to have a proper gaming desktop machine. But the only problem with that is it’s portability.
I want a machine that I can game on, but still be able to pick up, shove in a backpack, and bring around with me to labs/home/events etc.
Plus the Dell XPS desktops aren’t as good value as the laptops.
