Something to blame Games Soc for!
Today was one of those days where it was time to bring all the glass bottles and jars down to the bottle bank. As usual, I was dragged along to help out with putting them in. And by helping out, I mean doing the whole thing myself while Elaine watches from the car and brings them all to me.
Afterwards, I was left to fend for myself in Blanch, although it wasn’t too annoying, because I wanted to go to the Centre and possibly buy a new game. So a short walk up and a Burger King breakfast later, I was in GAME.
Rewind for a sec. Burger King breakfast. Not the first thing you’d think about when getting breakfast, but I used to like grabbing a morning sandwich meal. Although it does count as a fry-up, it’s still a decent meal, and you don’t pay as much as a full meal. However, it seems that recently they’ve re-thought the whole breakfast thing. They now sell them as “baps”. Alright so the name change doesn’t seem like much. But they’ve changed how they add the ingredients as well. Now the sausage, instead of being like a patty, is coiled up inside the bap. Making it a lot harder to handle without completely falling apart! Think I might be avoiding BK for breakfast in future. Maybe I’ll just go to McD’s or maybe one of the cafés…
OK, fast-forward back to GAME. For all the time I’ve been there, Guitar Hero 2 has been a staple game at console gaming, LAN events, and any other time Games Soc is setting something up. As such, you begin to get addicted to the game, and the songs. Well, that is probably the main reason why I ended up coming out of GAME with a copy of the game for the 360, and the guitar to play it with!
However, it did take a bit of deliberation before I got it. The guy working at the time was nice and came up to me asking if I needed any help at all, so I questioned about GH. First reaction from him: “Wait for Rock Band”. Understandable, but I’m really not liking the game since the US have had it for so long while us “PALs” have been left out. So I asked about the game, and he was saying to try somewhere else since they were going for €110. Argos were selling GH2 and 3 for €100 each. In the end, I got a pre-owned GH2 game/guitar for €89, minus the €20 I’d collected on my reward card. Making a respectable €69 for the game and guitar.
Now you might be asking why didn’t I go for GH3? Well for one, GH3 is a LOT harder than GH2, which means I’d have no chance on Hard, let alone Expert. Secondly, the achievements are much easier on GH2. Yes I am that much of a Gamerscore whore, that I care about difficulty now. And finally, and this is probably the bit where most of you will think “WTF?” - I prefer the guitar to be wired rather than wireless. Yes, you heard me. Even though the current-gen is supposed to be all about wireless stuff, I still use wired controllers and accessories. Both of my controllers are wired (one that came with the core system, and the other “borrowed” one), I have 2 wired headsets (”borrowed”, and another one came with the Vision cam), and the console itself is wired to Live. But that can’t be helped as there is no wireless signal in my room. Plus the god-damn thing is sitting practically right next to the socket!
So, when I’m back in college tomorrow, first thing I’ll probably be doing after setting up my computer again, is plugging in the guitar and loading up GH2, for a little bit of rocking out to those songs I just can’t get out of my head thanks to the amount of playing time by the Games Soc.
Good show lads, good show.
