I haven’t really had much to talk about recently, but just a couple of hours ago, at the conclusion of the Belgian Grand Prix, I did have something to rant about. And just very recently it seems that there is even more to rant about!
NOTE: This particular rant may not be suitable for minors. If you really are under-18, even though you claim to be 31 or something, you may want to close this tab/window/whatever.
The main thing that had really cussed me off, was of the final result for Sébastien Bourdais. I had always liked him whilst racing in Champ Car, and when I first heard he was going to be moving to Formula One, I was really excited, and hoping that he would do really well, even in an inferior car. It would have been a dream start for him in Australia had his Ferrari engine not crapped out (as they seem to be doing more recently) very near the finish – but still 7th place meant points
It all seemed to go downhill since then, with the Toro Rosso’s being uncompetitive and down the order. I really though his talent was being wasted there, instead of in the Indy Racing League… Valencia’s return to form for the team was nice, especially as he qualified in the top 10.
Going into today’s race starting from 9th, I had high expectations for him to score maybe a point or two, and not have a bad strategy like in the race before. Running fifth after the first set of pit stops was brilliant! I could understand the TV coverage following him around quite a bit, given he’s the closest thing the Belgians have to a driver from their country ![]()
After Räikkönen crashing out, the 4th place seemed ever sweeter if he could just hold it on the road. The only main thing was that almost all the attention was on the leaders dicing it out, cutting chicanes, almost crashing into other spinners and more…
After I heard that Alonso and some of the others were pitting for intermediates, and that Seb was in third, I was ecstatic! A podium for the French boy coming into unfamiliar territory with machinery much different to the Panoz DP01 he enjoyed in 2007 would have been absolutely astounding. But then those fat bastards who slipped in for wets had to go and ruin the story. Watching it and seeing how the cars came across the line – Heidfeld, Alonso, Vettel and Kubica made me feel absolutely sick and disgusted. After all the talk that Bourdais might be on his way out of the team next year, and almost getting a momentous result to find him only match his best finish sickened me.
Heidfeld, Alonso and Kubica – they’re all wankers…
Vettel, I have no qualms against him. They are team-mates, so although he did pass Bourdais, it was essentially still the same result for the team. Besides, he’s a great driver, as he’s shown recently
Now, all had seemed to be ranted and done with – until hearing from edit wars on Wikipedia, and not-the-official-F1-site-sources all over saying Hamilton had been penalised 25 seconds for cutting the chicane, and had lost the win.
Excuse me for a moment while I scream at the top of my voice:
WTFH?!?!?!?!
Are those stewards just blind idiots? Yes, he did cut the chicane, I’m not saying he didn’t. But did you see that he was pushed off by Räikkönen not yielding when Lewis had the advantage going into the corner? Did they not see Lewis fall back behind Kimi before the line – which meant he did yield the spot back as the rules mandated. Did they not see that Kimi crashed out and didn’t even finish the race? They must be fucking blind…
And the worst part of it all is that the official F1 site hasn’t even mentioned it yet, even with all these other sources going on about it for the past hour or so. I mean, if you’re doing to do something so drastic, at least publish it yourselves first!
Still, if they had some common sense, they’d rescind that penalty. Soon after he got past at La Source, he pulled away a bit, and even if he had stayed behind Kimi, it’s entirely possible that he would have got past as Kimi would have been first onto Rosberg’s car backing-up, and had he still crashed, then the result would still have been the same!
I’m seriously not impressed with the sport right now. It’s coming dangerously close to the IRL and A1GP taking top seed as my favourite form of motor sport…
PS: It seems as if the official F1 site has FINALLY posted the news on their site. Either way, they’re still complete fucking wankers.
PPS (18:04 IST): I’ve just heard a couple of great names for the FIA: “Ferrari International Assistance”, and “FIAT without the T”. Completely accurate in my eyes
