If you’re bored…
I once experimented with recording me playing Pokémon on my DS. Unfortunately, the video turned out to be completely blurry and useless. It was then I read and understood what the macro function on my camera actually does. And now the end result is a video of me playing, that you can actually make out!
So, ummm, yea here it is. Me facing off against the Champion Cynthia, on my fourth run through the Elite Four. Details of my team (e.g. movesets, stats etc.) will not be disclosed other than what you see in the video, just in case someone actually watches this and actually wants to do a non Level-100 battle.
YouTube version is also available if you don’t like GameVee. I’m not going to embed it, since what’s the point of posting the exact same video twice?

Interesting, a friend is always posting videos of her playing Pokemon games, I myself made one when I hacked the hell out of the game for hilarious effect. Don’t suppose you have a link?
@Thomas Geraghty: Welcome. And do you mean links to the ROMs of the games? Should be able to get them from either ndash.eu or DS ROM News.
No no, I thought maybe you had a online guide! I’d remove those links, DS Scene was taken down from linking Viva Pinata images from another site (that had nicked them off Microsoft, and Microsoft got DS scene taken down. Pretty dumb!). Apologies if you just figured the camera out!
@Thomas Geraghty: Oh, OK. I was a little confused at first as to what you were asking for. No, I don’t have any guides, this was just a one-off thing.
Although I am thinking about recording my gameplay through Platinum once it comes out over here. Although first thing I’ll need to do is get the filesize down. The original 11-minute video was nearly 900MB - I think I need to turn it down from 640 Fine to 640 Standard or even the 160 setting apart from the really important bits
The best option is to record at highest quality and then use a PC application like Mediacoder (http://mediacoder.sourceforge.com) to convert it to another file format. If you like AVI then convert the converted file back. The file size should be considerably reduced then. I’ve done this a few times in order to save memory.
Don’t hold your breath too much for Platinum, I’ve completed the Japanese version, they have essentially just added everything they added to R/S when making emerald. It just gives you something to do after the elite four. Mind some of the new GTS functions are pretty cool
Well, that is what I did with this one. I imported the 900MB file into Windows Movie Maker and it managed to shrink it down to a more manageable 168MB. Much easier for uploading, but still took 40 minutes
Yea, they are all essentially slightly enhanced remakes, but at least with Platinum they’re making more use of the DS’s capabilities, whereas Emerald was just a slight change. Although they did both add more longevity in the Battle Frontiers.
Although who can say no to having a game where you can get a Gible on your first time passing by
*makes mental note to get a SLOT-2 based flashcard to play Emerald with *
I’ll be posting a tutorial on my blog soon on how to use a homebrew
app on a slot 1 cart to rip GBA ROMs and your save on to your microSD
card. My Pokemon Emerald save is now safe on my PC and is working with
Visualboy Advance. Should work with my Slot 2 cart as well!
