I imported the 900MB file into Windows Movie Maker and it managed to shrink it down to a more manageable 168MB. Yea, they are all essentially slightly enhanced remakes, but at least with Platinum they’re making more use of the DS’s capabilities, whereas Emerald was just a slight change. Although they did both add more longevity in the Battle Frontiers.

If you like AVI then convert the converted file back. The file size should be considerably reduced then. I've done this a few times in order to save memory. Don't hold your breath too much for Platinum, I've completed the Japanese version, they have essentially just added everything they added to R/S when making emerald. It just gives you something to do after the elite four.
