Random College Rants
There really should have been something “proper” up yesterday, but given how tired I was (and still am) after Gaelcon last weekend, all I did was fill the gap with another two bits of my Platinum playthrough. And since nothing is coming to mind right now, it’s time for some random things about college.
Labs
Firstly, those first year labs still are only down on the L101 timetable. Although I do know by now that they will always come in, it does means that Tuesdays and Thursdays mean no computing building. However, lots of others also hang out in the Clubs and Socs office all day, so I do tend to go there from time to time. And sometimes work gets done, rather than people playing addictive Flash games, trying to get free booze from the SU president, and other general shenanigans.
Wednesdays
Thankfully, Wednesdays are getting a lot less cluttered. For starters, Snooker/Pool meetings were moved to Thursday afternoons, freeing up a clash, as well as filling the gap in the afternoon before Lab Gaming! Also, with the Warehouse scheduled to open soon for Airsoc, that will take Wednesday trips out, leaving just a fight between Karting and Games Soc. At the moment the choice of which to go to rests on the roll of a D10, with 7 sides saying Games, and 3 saying Karting. That and money, and room on the signups.
Fright Night
This Thursday, Film Soc and Games Soc will be taking over the Mezz for the whole night, featuring a lot of gaming and a lot of spooky films. I myself will be stocking up on energy drinks (Red Bull Coke and Lucozade!) and spending the entire night (or most of it) parked in front of a 360, with my own hard drive plugged into it
Gaelcon
I could have written a lot about Gaelcon yesterday, but I didn’t feel like it. What can be said about it though is that there was a lot of money spent on Yu-Gi-Oh cards (and making some half-decent Decks that could possibly last a litle longer against STOCS’ own “big guns”); a game of RISK 2210, where taking the entire Moon on Turn 1 and holding it for the entire game almost gave me the win; Monopoly with other STOCS guys where we got well and truly owned; John Doyle selling off all his crap (including a huge box of YGO cards to me for a fiver
), and other general board gaming-based things.
And the best bit of it all had to do with the limited edition Gaelcon mugs. On Saturday morning when Seán and myself arrived, we saw that they were selling mugs at the events desk. There were 72 in total, each having “xx of 72″ written on the bottom. But some of them were more witty than others. Essentially, if the number was something that could be related to something geeky, then the geeky thing was written in place of the number. There were dice (D6, D8, D10), some random acts of boredness (28 of, of, of… 72), and other gems - but Seán and I got, in my eyes, some really good ones.
I got mug number 3. On the bottom: “π of 72 (± 0.14)”.
OK, that question mark, is supposed to be pi ^
Seán got mug number 42. I think you can probably guess what was on the bottom
Hoodies
On a much less related note, there will be more DCU hoodies being bought soon. Before long, you should see me in an Airsoc hoodie, or a newer “zippie” Games Soc one
That’s really all I can think for now. Ridicule my lack of inspiration for stuff if you must. I am very good at ignoring comments filled with absolute shit (especially when written by people using Mac OSX, and Firefox 3 from within the DCU network!)

I can’t guess what’s on the bottom of Seán’s mug.
@AdjustantReflex: Obviously you’ve never heard of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy then…
@TheChrisD: Yes, I have.
