So last night was the latest TBWW (Twitterer/Blogger/Webby/Whatever) meetup at Porter House Central and Soundcheck, organised by Jason Roe. One thing that I think was different with this one is that during the meeting we actually planned out when our next one (that’s not saying that other people can’t arrange other ones in the meantime) will be. Details inside.
First things first, and that’s the details. Friday January 16th is the all-important date. Mark it in diaries now please ![]()
As for the location, we plan on returning to everyone’s favourite sushi place, the Hop House on Parnell Street. They have a Bebo and a MySpace but I refuse to link to either, so here’s their MenuPages.ie page. Also a large Google map of the location since MenuPages.ie have it wrong.
Time, and other things like that won’t be decided for a while, but I’d say in or around starting anytime from around 6-7.30pm. But that’s to be decided at a later date, depending on when people are available.
Now, I can’t completely confirm this (given how my hearing is a little off and the pub was noisy), but Elly made it her mission to get me to arrange the next one. Hence why the date is what it is. I would have gone a week later, if only for the fact that my exam period is from the 19th-31st January. I amy only have one exam to do, but I have no idea when it is. If I find out it’s nowhere near the 23rd, and more people want to meetup then, I’ll happily change it.
If it turns out I was hearing things and I’m not organising it, I’ll either delete or strikethrough half of this post
That’s all I have to say about the meetup, but following is the usual boring crap I write, so feel free to close the tab/window now if you want
It was great to meet everyone last night, be they those I’ve met before, those I’ve talked to but not met, and everyone else I had no clue who they were beforehand. (See here for the list that was expected beforehand). It was a fairly slow start to the meeting – I still think I was the first one to arrive at the Porter House (around half 5), and was alone until McAWilliams came about 6. And from there it exploded
There was only really one main problem with the location – it was busy. Really busy. From starting off gathering around a pillar, moving back to a free small table, and then getting the chance to sit down proper when a booking that was made never turned up took about an hour and a half to manifest before some food could be ordered! By this time, everyone favourite “taker-chargerer” Elly had arrived and before long we all knew who was planning things out
For food, the Porter House has a very wide selection of dishes, although nowhere near as wide as their selection of drinks! (Tip: you can get Galway Hooker’s for very cheap here
) I myself was feeling a little adventurous, ordered a calzone Pepperoni Hot Hot Hot (spicy BBQ sauce, and a huge amount of jalapenos!), while there were burgers, steak sandwiches, salmon parcels (actually wrapped up as if it was a parcel as well!) and other bits ordered by all. Of course, things looked a little funny, when twelve plates of food arrived to somehow fit on three small bar tables! Somehow we managed it…
The pizza was excellent, the perfect level of heat (for me anyway) and really well made. Being a calzone I ate with a knife and fork (for once in my life!) even with Elly practically roaring in my ear suggesting I just pick it up and munch on it! Oh, and I shouldn’t forget to mention the absolutely gorgeous strawberry milkshake I had – even better than Eddie’s I must admit. Although it did look a little odd seing this huge glass of red, creamy liquid arriving at the table whereas all around were pints, Hooker’s, flavoured beers and other general alcholic stuff.
Moving onto Soundcheck later – well I really haven’t got much to say about it since I left just after 11 – last bus home being 2320, and I was not going to get the Nitelink. The biggest thing there was the surprise that Darren Byrne was there (and supposedly, it was a surprise for him to meet me as well!)
So that’s all I have to say about last night, t’was a fun night to be had by all. I’d give a customary link dump or everyone who was there, but I’m not too sure if this post will be used to track who’s turning up to the next one or not, and I don’t want to confuse people with two lists of names and links
ADDED @ 16:52 – God, I really should proof-read these things first. First I forgot Sabrina’s link, then I though I fixed the wording when I hadn’t, and now I’ve had to fix it again!
ADDED @ 16:53 – Argh, January 16th, not 17th!
