I don’t want very much really…
Can I just have a social media program that has the power of TweetDeck, has user streams, uploads stuff to Twitpic properly – as in with the tweet as a caption, and what adds the image preview on the Facebook status – with Seesmic’s speed, fluidity, plugin feature, and the “Home” column which shows everything…?
Why is it that at the moment I have to pick one over the other as both TweetDeck and Seesmic Desktop 2 have a single failing about them that means I’d rather not use them:
- TweetDeck runs on AIR, which is not good for my system and makes it slow and liable to crash. Also it takes a while to initialise and populate the columns. And most importantly it doesn’t have an all-encompassing “Home” column.
- Seesmic doesn’t upload images properly to Twitpic, it has to upload the image first before getting the URL to add to the tweet, and Silverlight isn’t great for my system either. Also, the way Facebook is shown in the client is confusing as well, especially in the account selection, as I have to go into a sub-menu to toggle my personal account and the bear’s account.
I switched back to SD2 a little while back as it was much quicker than TD. But now I’ve just had to switch back again as SD2 was not uploading stuff to Twitpic with the caption the way TweetDeck does. Now though I really want to go back to SD2 because I don’t have a “Home” column featuring everything…
Argh, why cant I have the best of both worlds
Oh, how I fucking hate them. Particularly when it’s the kind of crash/hang/lockup/whatever that almost no-one else gets and there is no viable solution available online to fix the problem.
Mainly this issue affects Source engine games, in particular Left 4 Dead 2 and Team Fortress 2. It’s an issue that really irks me as I can’t stop it, it just happens randomly through no fault of my own, and it’s not very clear what I’m supposed to do to alleviate it.
It’s an odd problem to describe, but I’m going to try:
- Upon starting to play whatever sound, game locks up, loops the last half-second of sound and freezes the game.
- Sound then loops through the same half-second of audio for a few seconds, sometimes changing what is looping while my screen is now black while it reloads.
- About 5-10 seconds later the game comes back, and hurriedly catches up to where it’s supposed to be. However sometimes upon coming out of the crash, it crashes again.
- On checking my Process Explorer, I see that before the game crashes it is using over 1GB of RAM. After BOTH my screens reload (that is to say when it crashes it locks up both the game and my other screen), I find it’s RAM usage down to under 700MB, and before it works again, the RAM usage climbs back up steadily to what it was at.
I really am stumped as to what it causing this. I recently updated fucking everything, including graphics drivers, audio drivers, verified game files, adding a page file to the drive that the games run from, disabled Windows Aero while it’s running… And still.
Also, when trying to enjoy just a little bit of GRID, I find it happening there too, but a little bit different: On crash the sound doesn’t loop, and a few seconds later the game comes back having not paused at all, so I’ve still continued in whatever direction at whatever speed for a few seconds, and when the screen comes back it’s very drained of colour and massively bright until I pause the game at which it returns to normal.
Fuck’s sake, why can’t this shit just fucking work like it’s supposed to…

Well, I’ve got a lot that has happened over the past couple of weeks that I should write about.
I really need to remind myself to write about it.
Maybe in the morning, when I can think properly.
I just need to remember to do so…
