Chris’ RROD’s
No, my Xbox is not flashing three-quarters of a concentric ring by the use of red LED’s. These are my “Ranting Reviews of Doom”, my take on game reviews.
Why “Ranting Reviews…”
Well, I was originally trying to think of an acronym for RROD to encompass game reviews. I originally though of “Review of Rental Or Download”, but then I realised not only did it sound shit, but I may at some point review a game I didn’t rent from GameSenders or download. Also, given the fact that I tend to rant rather than blog, I came up with Ranting Reviews. The “Of Doom” bit was a bit more random, though. Just pretend you’re playing Munchkin.
And just be glad it’s not an Undead, Ancient, Intelligent, Humongous, Enraged Review From Hell with a Big Honking Sword of Character Whupping. And a Mate. Because that would be REALLY bad. Or really good, if you had one of those cards to make it go away and leave all those Treasures behind, or to make it Level 1
Review Scoring
I score reviews on three things: Gameplay, Replayability, Engrossness.
Gameplay is basically the game itself - from plot, storyline, and things like that to possibly even the multiplayer, if I ever get a chance to play that part of it.
Replayability is a measure of how much I’d want to play it again, after moving onto something else. Multiplayer is the key here, as it would bring me back, but an engaging and epic single player which I’d want to play over again helps too!
Engrossness is a measure of how many hours of sleep, or how many days I’ve wasted playing the game when there were other, more pressing or more important things that could have been done. If I can put it down and do those things, then it scores badly. If I’m getting e-mails saying I’m way overdue, or being yelled at by parents to do something now or get kicked out, then it scores high
What isn’t scored, or quite frankly cared about are graphics and… OK, maybe just graphics. I don’t care if it looks good, I just want it to play on whatever machinery I have!
